Haddonfield Attorney and Son Named Citizens of the Year

CHERRY HILL – May 21, 2005 – The father and son who founded the annual memorial day observance in this cc community in 1999 are being honored as A Haddonfield attorney and his son have been chosen Citizen of the Year, for the State of New Jersey, by the Jewish War Veterans (JWV) of the United States of America, Department of New Jersey.

Eric Spevak, Esq., and his son Marshall, a Cherry Hill High School East (CHHSE) junior, have dedicated themselves for many years to raising funds and awareness for regional veteran's groups and spearheading fund raising for area charities.

Announcement of the award came from Robert Richter, commander of the Department of New Jersey, JWV of the USA.

“Eric and Marshall were responsible for sponsoring and hosting a significant number of programs to entertain, feed and provide legal services for activated National Guard troops deployed overseas,” Commander Richter said. “In addition, they were responsible for raising funds and collecting items used to support activities at state veteran homes, state veteran charities and family readiness groups of activated National Guard personnel.

In addition to being a family law attorney, Eric serves as first vice president of the Camden County Bar Association and will become president in 2007. He chairs its Family Law Executive Committee. Earlier this year, New Jersey Monthly Magazine named Eric a "New Jersey Super Lawyer.” To receive the designation, New Jersey Monthly Magazine first surveyed 35,000 attorneys in the State of New Jersey. A special blue ribbon panel then reviewed and scored the list of nominees.

Eric has received other awards including being named to the "Ten Leaders" of New Jersey for Matrimonial & Divorce Law by Digital Press International. He has also received the highest rating from Martindale Hubbell, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious law directory and leading attorney rating company. Eric has also been listed in "Who's Who Among American Lawyers" since 1999.

In 1999, at Marshall’s urging, Eric mobilized the first townshipwide Memorial Day commemoration. It is now an annual event.

Marshall’s other community service includes serving as a committee member for the annual U.S.O. Style Veterans Gala Dinner-Dance and planner for the annual holiday party honoring families of service men and women deployed overseas. Marshall has also been an American red Cross volunteer for the past three years. He participates in CHHSE’s DECA award-winning program and a number of service organizations.
